Don’t let the good old Norn Iron weather put you off exploring what is on your doorstep…you may have four seasons in one day…so come prepared! There are many wonderful places to visit on the North Coast and beyond and there is something for everyone…enjoy!

  • You are just a three minute walk to the West Strand Beach so put your surfboard/bodyboard over your shoulder…cross the road and enjoy the surf. Book yourself and or/your family and friends  a surf or paddleboard lesson with Alive Surf School ( kids summer camp during the summer) Or just relax, take a picnic, your camera and a good book and lie on the beach or go for a paddle taking in the views and stunning evening sunsets (or wrap up warm and enjoy the winter storms)
  • From the West Strand Beach…take a ten minute stroll along the beach or the promenade to Portrush restaurant and harbour area, as well as local shops and the famous Barry’s Amusements
  • The annual International North West 200 motorcycling circuit is on your doorstep. “Metropole Corner” is two seconds round the corner from the house!
  • Golfing is a major international attraction in the area. You are close to Royal Portrush Golf Club (host for the 148th Open Championship 2019) & Rathmore Golf Club – both a 2 minute drive or 15 minute walk. You are also close to two golf courses in Portstewart – a 5 minute drive.  Castlerock and Ballycastle Golf Clubs are 30 minutes drive. For the less competitive golfer why not try the pitch and putt at Ballyreagh Golf Club or play a leisurely nine holes.
  • Walking is a ‘must-do’ every day (even in the rain!) There are walks to suit everyone… walk to Portstewart Promenade (45 minutes approx.) and then on to Portstewart Strand to Harry’s Shack along the scenic Coastal Path from the West Strand Beach. Walk to Ramore Head and around Landsdowne Crescent to the East Strand Beach, along to the White Rocks and back (1.5 hours approx.) For the ramblers, walk the Ulster Way from Portrush to Carrick-a Rede (33 miles of high cliffs and secluded beaches as well as in Dunluce Castle and the Giants Causeway (or…jump on the Causeway Rambler bus from Portrush to Carrick- a –Rede and walk back or have a walk over the rope bridge and take the bus back to Dunseverick Harbour and walk the coastal path back to the Giants Causeway and jump on the bus back to Portrush).   • Walk in the footsteps of giants at the famous Giant’s Causeway – check it out for yourself or take a guided tours by Dalriada Kingdom Tours
  • Cycling is a leisurely way to get around the 11 miles of  ‘ the Triangle’. Follow the cycle path to Portstewart and then to Coleraine and back to Portrush. Take your bikes on the train to Coleraine where you can catch a train to Castlerock and cycle back to Portrush.
  •  There is no lack of water on the Causeway Coast. Visitors are welcome at Portrush Yacht Club – diving section and summer yachting courses.  Book a Deep Sea Fishing Charter or Sightseeing Trip onboard the Causeway Lass in Portrush. A PADI Aquaholics Dive Centre in Portstewart offers diving training, diving trips and sightseeing boat trips. Go cliff jumping and bouldering with Causeway Coasteering… if you are brave enough!  The Edge Watersports Activity Centre provides  fun adventure on the River Bann. Book a Kayaking Tour with http://Causeway Coast Kayaking Tours Have a fun day at the Raft Race. For a more relaxed taste of the ocean join the Arcadia Bathing Club for a ‘swim’ (quick dip) every Sunday morning at 10.30 am…no wetsuits required just bring your swimmers. Or just go for a paddle and a coffee!
  • Guinness! – no visit to Portrush is complete without a short stroll to the famous Harbour Bar for a pint of the black stuff (the best on the North Coast…so we have been told (hic!)  With its open fire and little snug it’s a wonderful place to sit back and make new friends
  • Taste a drop of the ‘Irish’ at Bushmills Distillery – the world’s oldest distillery producing whiskey since 1608
  • Guided food & drink tours – Causeway Coast Foodie Tours
  • Shopping – Take the Train to Coleraine  from either Portrush (10 minute walk) or Dhu Varren Halt (2 minute walk). Good selection of shops.
  • Music – Atlantic Sessions – four days of a music trail across Portrush/Portstewart
  • New Horizon Christian Festival –  University of Ulster Coleraine
  • Supercup NI – international football tournament
  • Indoor Leisure Facilities – Coleraine Leisure Centre

  • Londonderry – take the train from Coleraine  Train Station. Historic walled city great day out for shopping and the and the annual City of Derry Jazz Festival
  • You are a short drive to Magilligan Ferry from which you can cross to Greencastle and explore the Innishowen Penninsula and Ballyliffen Golf Club (Malin Head is awesome on a wild and windy day).
  • A 20 minute drive takes you to the Bushmills Distillery, the Giant’s Causeway, Ballintoy, Dunseverick Harbour, Kenbane Castle, Portbradden, White Park Bay, Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge, Ballintoy and Ballycastle.
  • A boat trip away from Ballycastle is Rathlin Island. A 6 miled long, L-shaped island famous for its Nature Reserve and puffins
